On Thursday the first of our specialties was held in Decatur, AL. Judge Tom Coen chose GCH Solange Body Language as his Best of Breed and later in the day Group 1. This sable and white bitch is sired by CH Kymric Xterra out of Mindalyn Spring Fever. She was bred by and is owned by Linda Nicholas.

On Friday, judge Debra Nordby repeated the Breed win for GCH Solange Body Language.

Saturday – judge Susan Christie chose CH Telyns Aynsworth Silver Ribbons as her Best of Breed at the third specialty. This bi-blue bitch is sired by CH Kandisweet Crestar Phoenix out of Telyns Viva Las Vegas. She was bred by Teddi and Amanda Hildebrand and is owned by Ellen Worthington.

And, at the final specialty, judge Barbara Wright chose GCH Blue Heavens Champagne On Ice. This blue merle bitch is sired by CH Macdega Notorious out of CH Blue Heavens Sizzling Ice. She was bred by and is owned by Lisa and Lloyd Graser.

2014 ASSA National Specialty Best of Breed
The American Shetland Sheepdog Association 2014 National Specialty concluded yesterday by crowning its 2014 Best of Breed at Purina Farms in Gray Summit, Missouri. GCH Solange OnStar was judge Janet Turnage Nahakian's selection for the top honor. The sable bitch is sired by GCH Solange Surround Sound, who was Best of Opposite sex to BOB, out of CH Solange Spring Fling. Both, the breed winner and opposite, are bred and and owned by Linda Nicholas. They were handled by Joel McCarty and Nick Joines, respectively. Solange owned the day as two of its breedings earned Merit Awards and two others were in the final cut for their gender.

Select Dog went to GCH Paray’s Preferential, sired by CH Corteo At PaRay Of Don Quixote, out of CH PaRay's Posh Spice. He is bred by his handler, Tray Pittman and Paul Flores, and owned by Kim Furlong and Tray.

Select Bitch went to GCH Sunaire Fabulosity, sired by GCH Rosmoor Protocol, out of GCH Sunaire Opulence And Bling. She is bred by her owner, Kathy Ryan, and co-bred by Kathy Wilkins. She is handled by Paul Capobianco.

Judge Mark Houston-McMillan's winner of the Novice class, the sable dog, is sired by CH Grandgables Boy Oh Boy, out of Win Glory's Sweet Kiss. He is bred by Mai Nisimoto, owned by Yumi Kai, and handled by Kazuyuki Miyamoto.

Reserve Winners Dog went to Laureate Homage from the 9 to 12 AOAC class. He is sired by the Stud Dog class and Merit Award winner, GCH Serenity's Walk In The Park, out of Laureate Embelish. He is bred and owned by Kim Aston and co-owned with Peter Culumovic. He is handled by Shelly McHugh-Boumans.

Also on Friday, judge Nioma Stoner Coen's Winners Bitch was Akadia Through The Looking Glass from the Bred-by Exhibitor class. She is sired by CH Macdega Authentic, out of Akadia Little Gothic Girl. She is breeder-owner handled by Shannalee Michalsky and co-bred with Deborah Sirdofsky.

Reserve Winners Bitch went to Lynphil Alize from the Novice class. She is sired by Macdega Raconteur, out of Lynphil's Small Wonder. She is owned by her breeders Phil and Crystal Wendling, and co-bred by Linda Wendling. She is handled by Kim Wendling.

Junior Showmanship was also judged on Saturday. Nioma Stoner Coen selected Jordan Flynn from an entry of 17 for her Best Junior Handler.

2014 ASSA National Specialty Best In Futurity
The American Shetland Sheepdog Association 2014 National Specialty hit the ground running with Futurity judging today. Ch Homespun Karefree Tahari was judge Sheila Monks selection for Best in Futurity from a field of 97 puppies. The winner of the 12 to 18 Month class is sired by GCH Homespun Casual Blues, out of Jana Karefree Karaoke. She is bred by Carol Metz and Nancy Porta, owned by Julie Iverson, and handled by Katie Grohowalski. Runner Up to Best in Futurity went to Kensil’s Circus Souvenir. The winner of the 9 to 12 Month class is sired by GCH PaRay’s Preferential, out of GCH Kensil’s Circus Carousel. She is bred and owned by Sylvia and David Calderwood, and handled by Tray Pittman. Tomorrow there is a Symposium – Understanding and Selecting for Polygenetic Traits, followed by health testing in the afternoon, the Top 20 Invitational Competition in the evening. Conformation judging resumes on Wednesday morning.
