Texas Toast: Here's to December!
There were three specialty shows held in two states during December: Ohio and Texas. Shoreline Shetland Sheepdgog Club of Baytown pulled the largest entry with 29 entrants for Judge Robert Shreve (Initiral breed: Wire Fox Terriers). Of the three specialties, two were designated specialties held in Ohio.

Obedience accomplishments
December was a repeat of November with four obedience awards during the month, including two Highest Scoring Dog in Regular Classes and two Highest Combined Score in OB and UA/UB.

Shelties lead the herd in December
There were 19 Herding Group placements awarded in November which included three Group 1 awards under judges Patricia Hastings (Poodles) Joseph Purkhiser, Col., USAF, Ret., (Smooth Fox Terriers) and Peggy Beisel-McIlwaine (Wire Fox Terriers). The breakdown of placements were as follows: six Group 2 awards, three Group 3 awards and seven Group 4 awards.

This month also celebrated a sheltie honored with a Group 2 at the AKC National Championship show in Orlando, Florida, under judge Barbara Dempsey Alderman, whose initial breed is the Afghan Hound.

Owner-Handled Series accomplishments
Herding Group judges placed shelties nine times in the American Kennel Club National Owner-Handled Series -- three of those awards were Group 1s.
