Ring Patterns: A look back at June 2016

Minnesota specialty had best turnout in June
There were 12 specialty shows held in 6 states during June: Minnesota, Ohio, New York, Massachusetts, Colorado and Alaska. It was a Friday specialty show for Lochland Shetland Sheepdog Club where Yvonne Defreitas judged the largest talent pool with 45 in competition. This specialty was followed by a pair of All-Breed Shows (Lake Minnetonka Kennel Club) in Jordan, Minnesota. Judge Defreitas was approved for the breed in November of 2008.

Lochland draws the largest entry in June
Yvonne Defreitas also tallied the largest entry for the month with 51 at Lochland Shetland Sheepdog Club.

Shelties continue to excel in obedience awards in June
Nine top obedience awards were earned in June in the States of Minnesota, Ohio, Iowa and Oklahoma. The highest entry in competition was 38 at Lawton Dog Fanciers Association.

One Reserve Best in Show For June and 53 Placements!
In North Dakota judge Paula Hartinger (Standard Schnauzers) awarded the Sheltie a Group One and Reserve Best in Show.

Along with this top award there were 53 Group placements, including 13 Group 1 awards. The number 278 represents the month's largest group in which a sheltie placed -- Group 2 under Judge Christopher Neale. His initial breed is Borzois.

Reserve Best Owner-Handled in Show comes from Michigan

Herding Group judges placed shelties 25 times in the AKC National Owner-Handled Series, including 3 Group 1s, 10 Group 2s, 8 Group 3s and 4 Group 4s.

In Michigan, Jim Frederiksen (Collies) awarded a sheltie Reserve Best Owner-Handled in Show at Grand Traverse KC with the Group One coming from June Penta (Afghans).
