The "Silver State" pulls largest specialty entry in August
There were 4 specialty shows held in 3 states during August: Nevada, Pennsylvania and Louisiana. Entries ranged from 10 to 20 this month with the most entries judged by Mary Wells (Collies) at the Northern Nevada Shetland Sheepdog Club on August 19. Judge Wells was approved to judge the breed in August of 1998.

The "Bluegrass State" fields a highest combined sheltie
There was one top Obedience award -- Highest Combined Score in OB and UA/UB --earned by a sheltie in August at Owensboro's River City Kennel Club on August 27. The total entry competing in Obedience at this show was 27

Double digit placements again in August
There were 26 Herding Group placements awarded in August, including 2 Group 1 awards, 9 Group 2s, 4 Group 3s and 11 Group 4s. The number 167 represents the month's largest Group in which a sheltie placed -- Group 4 under Judge Dorothy Collier (Komondor).

National Owner-Handled Sheltie flys high at Bald Eagle
A Best Owner-Handled in Show was awarded in Pennsylvania under judge Michael Lanctot of Canada at the Bald Eagle Kennel Club.

Herding Group judges placed shelties 23 times in the AKC National Owner-Handled Series, including 9 Group 1s. A Reserve Best Owner-Handled in Show was also awarded in Minnesota at the end of the month under judge Pat Cunningham (Old English Sheepdogs).
