We’re
less than two weeks into
the new year and we want
to know your Sheltie resolutions
for 2010. Have you resolved
to participate more or
less in some way, in your
local club, the parent
club; does your resolution
have anything to do with
technology; do you have
a special breeding planned
that’s going to
re-double
your
efforts or take it all
in a new direction; is
this the year to improve
your
handling skills or deepen
your knowledge of the
breed through education?
Tell
us your goals for 2010.

Shelties
I have resolved NOT to accept mediocrity
in my breeding program. After
attending many specialties, I see too
many common dogs in the ring. I
wish to preserve the "alert, gentle,
intelligent and questioning" expression
that is quintessential Sheltie, while
maintaining a balanced, sound dog.
I
have resolved to attend at least
one seminar per year
to further my education and
meet new people. One can always
learn one new tidbit at a
seminar and have fun doing
it.
Finally,
I have resolved to make
my mentors proud of me!
Barbara
Thompson (Barwood),
Guy Jeavons and Mark
McMillan (Grandgables),
Julie Desy (Ilemist), too
name a few, have entrusted
me with great dogs and
have spent a great deal
of their time teaching me
the ropes. I want
them to feel
a sense of pride when
I step into the ring with
their dogs and present them
professionally.
See you
in Tucson!

We have
made a vow to each other
(oh,
really i made a vow
to him) to keep far
fewer of the "pick" puppies
in order to raise the
bar even higher in terms
of quality -- so, keep
less and only keep ones
that are better than
all we have already.
Raising the bar again
by reviewing what we
already have now to
see if there are any
that might be better
placed as pets rather
than spending all the time
and money to finish them just
because we can. It isn't
an easy thing to do
sometimes, but I know
it's the only way to
improve. |
